She is
special, She is one of a kind..She is so sane and like her none other you can
find! She asks you to do chores…worries about your studies…she ain’t afraid to
kiss you in public…she loves you more than anything…she will never leave you, even
if you do...She will argue with you for your own good…for you she learns to
make world’s best ever food! It hurts her when you disrespect her, but against
you she will never utter a word! She is sent by God, just for you! She is a
beautiful song which no one sings, yes. She is your mother…AN ANGEL WITH NO
WINGS.
“Jason! Here’s your lunch box. Be
quick! We can’t afford to miss the school bus today! Don’t forget your sports
shoes or else you will be punished again..Hurry up darling!” she said with a
worried grin. “Don’t worry mom! I know my stuff right!” said little Jason proudly.”Oh honey, you’re wearing opposite shoes in your legs…” Laughed Jason’s
mom Lauren. With a red embarrassed face, Jason left the house and went to the
school. Lauren watched her little 9 year old while sitting on the chair outside
the house. She wondered how her little son was growing up so fast and how time
had passed so quickly!
Lauren was doing amazing as a single
mom. Jason’s father had left them after he was born. Since then, she never
looked back. It had been 9 long years. She tried her best to complete the absence
of his father in his life. She supported the house all by herself. Her only
reason to live was Jason! Her life was a struggle, she worked day in and out to
accumulate money for Jason’s higher studies. It was not at all easy. Her whole
life encircled around her little sweetheart.
Jason was growing up fast, his
requirements were increasing, his behavior was changing and gradually, his
mother whom he loved so much, now seemed like a torture. Five to seven years
had passed…They now had issues at home. Lauren was tired, arguing with him
everyday! She missed how things were between her and Jason when he was a kid.
Now her sweet little kid had turned into an ignorant teen. He used to return
home late, stay in his room for hours, started to have an overexposure to the
internet world..and everything! All this used to worry Lauren. The home which
used to echo with their laughs and giggles had turned into a house with permanent
silence. Lauren cried every night. She didn’t know how to deal with him
anymore. Things changed so quickly! Everything Lauren did was unliked by Jason.
The food she made was left uneaten almost everyday. Lauren wondered what went
wrong suddenly. It used to kill her how her only ray of hope in life was
turning dark. Every evening Jason used to leave the house and return late at night…But,
one day he didn’t! Lauren was scared, she didn’t know what to do. Thoughts of
losing him were terrifying her! She had no close friends or relatives to get help
from. Jason’s phone was unreachable. She went upstairs in his room and found a
letter which read-
‘Mom,
I’m tired of the daily drama I’ve to deal with at home. You still treat me like
a 9 year old! I’m not your baby anymore. It’s high time that you realize that!
Now I’m big enough to live on my own. This may seem harsh but I don’t need you
anymore. I’ll be okay wherever I go. I have money with me and I’m sorry but I
don’t feel sorry for what I’m doing. Stop calling me if you love me even a bit!
Bye & take care.
-Jason'
She fell on her knees after reading
that. She press the letter near to her chest and tears rolled down her cheeks.
Jason had left the house and his room was empty! Lauren couldn’t take it. She
felt hopeless! She was broke.
She had actually stopped living! She just
went to work everyday. She tried to find Jason but sadly, she couldn’t! Maybe
he was lost, maybe he purposely hid himself. She just hoped he was okay…She
didn’t stop believing though. On his every birthday and on every Christmas eve,
she used to buy presents for him. They lied unwrapped in his room for months…for
years..
Time had passed. Each day without Jason
was like a year for her. Jason had become a man. He worked in a bank and earned
good money. He was gonna get married in half a year. He never tried to find
about his mother, but he had started to feel guilty about what he had done
years ago. He realized he wouldn’t have been so big if his mom wouldn’t have
been there…His guilt was increasing day by day. Finally, one day he decided to
go home. To get along with his mother…to mend the things..to make everything
good again. The thoughts of facing his mom again bought chills within him.
Jason reached the house and rang the
bell…there was no response. Suddenly he noticed a lock on the door and there
was a board on the other side of the house saying ‘House on sale’
Jason was confused. He had no idea about what was going on. He immediately
called the number which was displayed on that board. “This is Jason Thompson,
where is the owner of this house…Lauren...Lauren Thompson. May I know?” asked
Jason. “Hello Jason. I’m Mr. Frank, House dealer of your mom. I need to tell
you something. I’ll come to your place with the house keys.” Said the man with
a hard voice. Jason stood there waiting clueless
for one hour. Mr. Frank arrived. They shook hands and he opened the door. Jason’s
eyes were watery when he entered the house. He could see the images in his head
of little him playing and running around the whole house and his mom running
behind him…and laughing cheerfully calling his name… Suddenly he asked, “What happened Mr. Frank?
Where’s my mom?” Mr. Frank looked down
and said, “I don’t know if I’m the right person to say this to you. But, I’m
sorry, your mother passed away a week ago… She had cancer and it was found very
late. So late, that she couldn’t be saved Jason. I’m her friend and also her
house dealer. She remembered you even in her last breaths… I don’t know what to
say more… I think I need to leave. Take care.” Jason couldn’t believe his ears!! He was
devastated! He cried, he banged his fist against the wall. He felt helpless!
The pain was unbearable, he couldn’t control himself as he fell on the floor.
He lost his mom forever! He couldn’t
forgive himself. He had never felt so guilty about anything ever! Leaving his
mom all alone and not being with her in her struggle for life…became his
biggest regret! He went to his room and found that the whole room was filled
with presents, all addressed with his name. Some for his birthday. Some for
Christmas. He opened each present with tears and he could literally feel the
pain in his heart! At the end he found a letter. It read-
‘Dearest Jason,
I know one day you’ll be reading this. Your condition while reading this letter
would be the same as mine when I read that letter which was the only thing you
left me with… and of course innumerable memories! My son, you can’t even
imagine how I’ve survived all these years without you. I feel bad that I couldn’t
be good enough for you. You’d be reading this only because you felt guilty for
leaving me and you realized your mistake. I guess it’s too late now… But I want
you to forgive yourself now. I want you to be happy forever and always! I wish
you to be a happy person, a successful man, a loving husband and for sure a
wonderful father. Take care sweetheart. Love you so much… always…!
-Lauren. ‘
Jason took the letter and all the presents with him and left. He continued to
live his life like his mother said. But, his mother’s death poisoned his heart
forever. That guilt couldn’t just go away.
Sometimes we unknowingly hurt her,
argue with her, fight with her, say something disrespectful or ignore her. Just
take a while and remember everything she has done for you till now…The list
will be endless. Many people will get tired of you and give up on you, But,
your mother never will! She loves you
unconditionally for who you are, and for her, you are the most awesome kid in the world! She
might get loud, troublesome and sometimes violent too, but only because she
cares for you! She has problems and worries too, but she will never throw them
up on you. Never let any fight between you both get so intense that she begins
to keep quiet. If her words irritate you, then her silence will kill you…and
her ignorance will break you… Don’t forget that. She loved and cared for you
when you were growing in her womb and she cares for you even now! Jason was too
late for his mother, to make up for the fight. To make things better, and to
mend their relationship make sure you never will be. Your mother is the best friend you can ever have, she
will always be by your side unless you decide to leave her. Remember that she
is growing older too! Now you are her responsibility and one day she will be
yours. One day when you will be old… the biggest factor which you will miss
from your past won’t be any stupid party or hard rock concert or video games or
anything that sorta… You will miss her the most! You will miss her scoldings,
her smile, her advices, her care and the time which you spent with her… Because
she is a beautiful song which no one sings…She is your mother…Yes. AN ANGEL
WITH NO WINGS…
